That concludes our lesson for today. Please remember it.
It’s important. Good day.

I prefer to take it further still. Work is something where you test things out before applying them to real life, since the worst that can happens is you get fired.

That’s for the advanced class, but can be good advice nonetheless.

A fun anecdote: my sister was the TA for a university’s first year math class in something I don’t understand. She was marking final exams, and came across one student who had written “Ball Is Life” on the front page. No questions were answered. Every subsequent page had “BIL” written on it, with no answered questions. Except for the last page, where the student had written “I’m sorry Mommy”.
Suffice to say, they failed. And wasted a lot of money.

Very important lesson that is forgotten much too often.

Yes, and I’m all too often guilty of that - hence the post.

...Unless your job is racing. In which case,
anything before or after is just waiting

Good point. Unfortunately, most of us on here aren’t in racing. I know I’m not. :/

I found this while grading exams. Think of them as an equivalent to Highschool graduation exams. “The human being doesn’t need stars or rings, it needs KIDNEYS!”
While being somewhat cute, it’s a waste of time when you really have to give 100% for once, and it shows why most countries have 16 y/o kids filed under in-between when it comes to driving/drinking/voting/marriage/loans/etc. Depending on local culture they may be allowed one or two but never all of them, and for a good reason.

But you still sometimes show up at work every now and then to be able to afford that, so it’s not completely unrelated.

Work may not be life but, when your work directly affects the lives of tens of thousands of people across the nation, it certainly is a large part of it

Granted, we were given a page of notes to take into a test in 11th grade, and I had a sheet with “you got this” written on it, and that’s it. Depending on whatever, some people can get away with the dicking around. But only if he rest of their work is up to snuff.

When I was a student myself I was aiming at the B to C range. Enough to pass, with a little room left to be able to completely fail one particular test or maybe even two (which rarely happened) to not fall into F territorry. Just coasting by. Education economics at their finest. How much time spent = X grade.
So I can somewhat relate.

My boss disagrees with you.

But money is. And I need to work to make money. Money can be exchanged for goods and services

Money is definitely not life.
It’s necessary, but it’s not life.

For sure. I’m not suggesting it isn’t important.
I’m stating that it shouldn’t be all consuming.

It’s important to work for yourself and those you think important - in addition to those that happen to pay you.

Yep, and sometimes those two groups overlap. But often people get confused between the two.

Technically as a remote employee I could live anywhere, but the distraction (and cost) of living near the beach would kill me :D
Schoenes Wochenende!
